Gaylord Michigan
Welcome to a wide-open winter.
The white stuff? We’ve got it. Heaps of it…weeks of it. Endless woods and water-framed sweeps of it. And we mean lots of snow—the fluffiest, most amazing kind of snow you can hope for, whether you’re in the mood for snowmobiling, skiing or snowshoeing. Even simply strolling the shops downtown takes on an entirely different feeling with snowflakes softly falling all around. If you require a more scientific assessment, well, let’s just say you can count on the sky letting loose an average of 152 powder-perfect inches on our up north paradise every winter.
So what do we do with all this magical snow? We ride sleds on it. We ski through it. We’ve even found a way to bike on it. To sum it up, we embrace it. Gaylord is your winter wonderland, offering silent sports from cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to frosty adrenaline rushes including downhill skiing and snowboarding. Your all outdoors paradise doesn’t go into hibernation; we OWN winter.
Boasting ample snowfall and heavily wooded, rolling landscapes, the Gaylord area offers some of the most enjoyable and challenging cross-country skiing and snowshoeing experiences in Michigan. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you’re sure to have a great time on the trail system that suits your taste. Look forward to viewing plentiful wildlife while exploring our snow-covered pathways at facilities that range from rustic and scenic to elegant and expertly groomed.
Many of the trails found in our Cross Country Skiing Guide are also frequented by those who favor snowshoeing. All trails and pathways that are groomed for cross-country ask that you do not snowshoe on the groomed track, however, they still offer excellent terrain. Several areas offer beautiful trails, along with snowshoe rentals, including Groen Nature Preserve, Treetops Resort, Otsego Resort and Forbush Corner.
